Three red cards this weekend, the first for Celta's Iago Aspas a half an hour in to Friday night's local derby at Deportivo for a retaliatory head-butt on Marchena as both players lay on the ground. The striker should have known better than to fall in to the trap of the Spanish international defender, who has a reputation for provocation and theatrics, but his actions have deprived the Galicians of their best forward for the next month or so after he was given a four match ban. The following day Betis defender Amaya was sent off early on in the game at Valencia for a foul on Soldado, and on Sunday Zaragoza's Babovic was given his marching orders shortly before half time of the match at Sevilla for a second bookable offence.

No less than seventeen players will join them on the sidelines after they completed the five yellow card cycle, including Iturraspe (Athletic), Wakaso (Espanyol), Ballesteros (Levante) and Camacho (Málaga), who were all given their tenth bookings of the season, and Laporte (Athletic), Juanfran (Atlético), Túñez (Celta), Siqueira, Mikel Rico and Torje (all Granada), Pedro López and El Zhar (both Levante), Duda (Málaga), Rubén and Trashorras (both Rayo Vallecano), and Rami and Feghouli (both Valencia), who were all shown their fifth. (20.03.13)

PS. Babovic and Laporte were both let off yellow cards by the disciplinary committe, and Amaya was also pardoned from his red card by the appeals committee later in the week. (23.03.13)

PPS. Basque midfielder Mikel Rico's fifth yellow card was cancelled after a second appeal, and he will be able to play for the team at Athletic bilbao this weekend. (28.03.13)
