Once again we had to wait for the last game on Sunday for our first and only red card this weekend, Getafe’s Alexis getting his marching orders for a sideways punch on Atlético’s Mandzukic which Jean-Claude Van Damme would have been proud of! It was bad tempered match though, and Alexis’s team-mate Juan Rodríguez could be on for a big ban if the LFP decide to follow up TV pictures which showed the midfielder deliberately stepping on Mandzukic’s leg as he lay on the ground. Rodríguez shrugged it off: “that’s part of the game”, he said in a post-match interview, admitting what he did, “Atlético do that sort of thing a lot!”. Otherwise two players reached the five yellow card barrier, which means they will be banned next weekend. Granada’s Fran Rico was one, and the other was our old friend Víctor Sánchez, winner of our “Villains” award last season. “When you get a reputation, referees go for you” he said recently. Too right!
