A bit of a blood-bath this weekend as we approach the last two weekends of the season, with a total of seven red cards. Rayo Vallecano’s Javier Aquino and Getafe’s Roberto Lago were given their marching orders near the end of their Monday night derby for fighting, Aquino accused of kicking out at his opponent whilst on the ground, and Lago laying into him with a flurry of punches! Getafe physical trainer Oscar García was also sent to the dressing room for protesting, as was Eibar’s assistant coach Patxi Ferreira, who waited for the referee at half time in the tunnel. The Basque side will be without a coach next weekend as his boss Garitano picked up his fifth booking of the season as well. Meanwhile Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti will have to watch the last two games from the stands as he was reported by referee Clos Gómez for “ironic applause” at the end of the match with Valencia. It remains to be seen whether he stays or not next season after his team dropped four points behind Barcelona following the 2-2 draw.

Elsewhere the already relegated Córdoba ended their match at Granada with nine men after Iñigo López and then substitute Fede Cartabia picked up two bookings each. They will have to sit out next weekend’s games together with ten other players who completed the five yellow card cycle, including Augusto Fernández (Celta), Dani García (Eibar), Sarabia (Getafe), Barral (Levante) and Granero (Real Sociedad), who were all given their fifth cautions, and Tiago (Atlético), Santi Mina (Celta), Manucho (Rayo), and Rulli and Rubén Pardo (both Real Sociedad), who were all shown their fifth. PS Aquino was let off his red card after Rayo presented video evidence that he was only defending his position, but Lago will have to serve out a four match suspension for his attack, two of which will be next season. (14.05.15)
