Maybe it was a bit much to hope for Alvaro Pereira to have a dream debut for Getafe after having to serve out an eight match ban for brawling before he moved to Spain from Argentina this winter? However the Uruguayan full back was only on the pitch at Las Palmas for just over an hour before he was sent off again, this time for a second bookable offence! Pity he joined us so late, he could have been a great candidate for our “Villains” prize this season1 The midweek round of games produced seven red cards in all, including one each for coaches Javi Gracía (Málaga) and Abelardo (Sporting), both of whom will have to serve out two match bans. There were two straight reds for Rayo players against Barcelona, Diego Llorente for a high tackle on Rakitic (a bit unfortunate, as he did get the ball first), and Iturra for bringing down Busquets in the area as he lined up to score. Eibar’s Lillo and Sporting’s Sergio Alvarez were given their marching orders as well in their respective games, both for second bookings. Another nine players will join them on the sidelines this weekend after completing the five yellow card cycle, including Augusto Fernández (Atlético) and Roque (Las Palmas), both of whom picked up their tenth, and Neymar (Barcelona), Molinero (Betis), Cabral (Celta), Rubén García (Levante), Duda and Juanpi (both Málaga) and Gayà (Valencia), all of whom were shown their fifth. PS Rubén García was let off his fifth yellow card on appeal. (05.03.16)
