No red cards this weekend right up until the Monday night games, Real Sociedad’s Illarramendi blotting an otherwise near-perfect copy-book when he picked up a second booking late on against Espanyol. Elsewhere Valencia’s Dani Parejo was the latest player to reach the five yellow card threshold, and he too will be banned next weekend. Before that though first division sides enter the cup midweek, with the following players all suspended from the end of last season (not that any of them would have played anyway): Messi, Luis Suárez, Umtiti, Savic, Carrasco and Manu García. Valencia’s Kondogbia will also miss the tie against Zaragoza, in his case for a ban dating back to his time at Sevilla four years ago! Good job somebody realised, otherwise we could have had another “Cheryshev” situation on our hands! (25.10.17)

(* suspension pending disciplinary meeting decision)
