Only one red card on the last weekend of the season, Atlético’s Correa getting his marching orders for a retaliatory kick at Levante’s Chema in their match on Saturday. He was given a two match ban, and must sit out the first two games when the new campaign begins in August. Also banned for the opening day after completing the five yellow card cycle are Maksimovic (Getafe), Carvajal (Real Madrid), Elustondo and Llorente (Real Sociedad), Mercado and Rog (Sevilla), and Gayà and Parejo (Valencia). And Barcelona’s Busquets will miss the first cup tie next year after he picked up his third booking of the competition in the Copa del Rey final against Valencia. Diego Costa and Banega have a one match suspension still pending from their earlier red cards as well, Banega in particular ending the season as our “Villains” award winner with 17 yellow cards, 2 reds, and a total of 7 matches banned.
