A red card for Real Madrid’s Fede Valverde in the Super Cup final against Atlético Madrid, the midfielder taking one for the team when he brought down Morata as he advanced on goal in the dying minutes of injury time. Valverde’s double consolation was that his side won in the resulting penalty shoot-out, and that he was named the MVP of the match by Spain coach Luis Enrique and his panel. Not a great example for the kids though, and there were a lot of people who felt that the Uruguayan should not have been awarded the prize after his professional foul altered the course of the match.
