Our old friend Iturralde González was at it again last weekend! One of the last of a dying breed of old style "I'm in charge!" refs, Iturralde strutted his stuff in the game between Sporting and Real Madrid, sending Madrid's assistant coach Rui Faria out of the dugout for who knows what reason (stop fidgeting and sit still, boy!), producing a plethora of cards which ended with Eguren's sending off, and just generally... well, being Iturralde! Already the holder of the record for the highest number of cards in La Liga, the Basque official is now just seven red cards short of being the referee who has sent off the most players in Spain. With the two he showed this weekend he now has 118 reds under his belt, with only the recently retired Daudén Ibáñez (123) and Megia Dávila (125) ahead of him. He still has a bit to go yet before he joins them in that "playing field in the sky", but we will surely miss him when he has gone! (07.12.11)
