Veteran referee Iturralde González was just getting in to his stride in the game between Betis and Real Madrid when he picked up an injury and had to hand over to his fourth official, Sagués Oscoz, at half time. That could have been a deciding factor in the match, especially as Sagués turned down two penalty appeals by the locals for possible hand-balls by Xabi Alonso, and then Sergio Ramos late on. Accidental or not, but it is anybody's guess whether Iturralde would have seen it the same way. Madrid went on to win 2-3 to maintain their ten point gap over Barcelona in the table. (14.03.12)
