Complaints by Athletic Bilbao this weekend that Rayo's winning goal in the San Mamés stadium came from a penalty which should not have been. At the behest of his linesman, referee Pérez Montero ruled that Gurpegui's second half foul on Piti was inside the box, but television pictures showed that it was almost a foot outside. Everybody can make mistakes, but what probably got them more than everything was the linesman's arrogant insistence that he was right and they were wrong. Oh no they weren't! Real Madrid have also been moaning recently that referees have got it in for them, especially after a late strike by Callejón at Osasuna was ruled out for a borderline offside. They could also have had a couple of penalties for hands, but there again the hosts had a couple of penalty claims turned down as well. Still, as they say over here "quien no llora, no mama!".
