All eyes were on Undiano Mallenco this Saturday after he drew the short straw for the latest "clásico" between Spain's two giants. Real Madrid were unhappy about his performance though as they felt that Ronaldo should have been awarded a penalty when Mascherano bundled him over in the area early on in the second half (television lip-readers picked up a series of insults by Ronaldo directed at the linesman!!!). Another penalty appeal was turned down before that when the ball hit Adriano on the arm as he was lying on the ground, but Fàbregas also wanted a penalty at the other end after a tussle with Pepe, and according to the Barcelona press, Pepe and / or Ramos could easily have been sent off. We suppose it depends what colour filter you have on your glasses as to what you see and don't see... (30.10.13)

P.S. Muñiz Fernández was let out of the "fridge" this weekend to take charge of the match between Levante and Espanyol. The experienced referee had been put on hold after his recent poor performance in the game between Elche and Real Madrid (see week 6 report), but he may be left out in the cold again after awarding another questionable penalty, this time when visiting midfielder Víctor Sánchez brought down El Zhar in an incident which started well outside of the area.
