Mateu Lahoz was the man put in charge of this year’s cup final between Barcelona and Real Madrid, but lucky for him he didn’t have too many controversial decisions to make. He did though disallow a headed goal by Bale, nobody really sure if it was for offside or for a previous foul on Pinto, but as Bale got the winner late on it was not an issue in the end. Del Bosque will also be happy that his Spanish players didn’t end up fighting between themselves, something that had caused problems in the past, although there was a bit of niggle between the non-Spaniards, in particular Pepe and Neymar having a go at each other early on. Thumbs up for Mateu though, who has a reputation as one of La Liga’s more reasonable referees. (23.04.14)
