Cup semi-finals this week, and Valencia protested about Iglesias Villanueva after he awarded a penalty to Barcelona and sent off Mustafi for a foul on Messi coming up to half time in the first leg tie in the Nou Camp. The German defender did appear to get to the ball first, but by then Barça were already three up, and although Neymar missed the spot kick, Luis Enrique’s side added four more after the restart. Would things have been different had Mustafi stayed on? Probably not the way Gary Neville’s side are playing right now! In any case the Ches decided not to appeal, the logic being that the second leg was only going to be a formality anyway. Barça were on the other end of a bad refereeing decision at the weekend though, Messi having an early strike at Levante ruled out by Pérez Montero for a non-existent offside. Again the Catalans won the match, so it didn’t matter that much, although Pérez’s ruling made it a little bit more difficult for them. (12.02.16)
