A fairly quiet weekend from a refereeing point of view on the return from international duty, action and goals taking centre stage. Hernández Hernández was probably a little heavy handed with the bookings in the Sunday mid-day game between Alavés and Málaga, resulting in Juanpi picking up two rigorous yellow cards, although nobody questioned the red card he dished out to Theo Hernández for a wild challenge on Camacho. Theo was upset though that the referee hadn’t awarded him a free kick seconds earlier, causºg the red mist to descend, and wallop! Deyverson was also unhappy that Hernández ruled out a late headed goal which would have given the locals the three points, but again the referee was probably right, albeit a matter of inches. Elsewhere Gil Manzano allowed a Marcelo strike against Betis to stand even though the Real Madrid full back was clearly in an offside position. That was Madrid’s third of six goals though, so it wouldn’t have mattered much anyway. (19.10.16)
