The VAR system is already making an impact in Spain, and this weekend it helped avoid two or three bad decisions. Barcelona in particular were saved right at the end of their game at Valladolid, a last gasp equaliser by Keko for the hosts eventually overturned by De Burgos Bengoetxea for a borderline offside decision after checking the screen. And Barça’s neighbours Espanyol also have VAR to thank for their opening goal against Valencia, Granero’s free kick hitting the bar and bouncing down just over the line before spinning clear, Del Cerro Grande also overturning his original decision after seeing that the ball had indeed entered the goal. A change for the better in our opinion, even if it means that this section is going to be a lot less fun in the future! (28.08.18)
