VAR is still in its infancy, and it seems there have been some technical teething troubles this season. This was particularly the case in the match between Leganés and Levante this weekend, where the communication between referee Munuera Montero and the VAR box apparently broke down. The visitors had been awarded a penalty on the stroke of half time for a foul by Siovas on Roger which the locals claimed had taken place outside of the area. What happened next is unclear (the Federation said there were no problems, but TV pictures suggested there were), but in the end the penalty stood and was converted, and Levante went on to win. Leganés president Victoria Pavón was livid and demanded that the match be replayed, but that was never going to happen, and the Madrid based club ended the weekend at the bottom of the table.
